So twenty years later, Ascheritt returns, though in a different form, and starts taking revenge on the seven. But here’s the thing about great lives you built on a throne of lies sooner or later it shatters, and when you kill the best swordsman in centuries, that can only mean sooner. The seven return with the glory, leaving their former companions dead in the woods, and lead a wonderful life built on the graves of their friends. They return, tired and broken from a fight which took everything out of them, only to find their seven companions at the border. Four continue on and despite it all, manage to actually finish the mission. Seven desert, unable to finish the mission, desperate to see their families and scared of death, hope having left them long ago. Fourteen go, but three are slain on the way and with the eleven who continue on, a betrayal occurs. Betrayal did occur during the journey, but it was never those four who chose that path, it was theirs. They are the wonders of the empire, with power and influence alike to almost even the emperor.
The Seven Heroes, everyone calls them, eyes wide and hearts filled anew with hope. As is right, they are killed there for their treachery by the other seven, who return after finishing the mission succesfully and ending the war. Four desert to the other side, later on known and scorned by the empire as the Four Treacherous Lances, lead by Ascheritt, the famous Blatt Master( which means he’s the best swordsman in the empire), known and admired for his abilities everywhere. Now think about this, fourteen heroes are chosen to go through the barrier towards that land to end this disastrous war. Now picture this, a large, dark fantasy land ruled by an emperor and in war with another, whose dark forces( aka large monsters and I saw it was finished last year, so I decided to read it all from the start again, to bring an end to something which had seemed never ending to young me. It was thrilling, great and so dark when I read it back in 2012. Ubel Blatt was that for me, one of the first mangas I ever started and absolutely loved. There’s something nostalgic about reading a manga which you started in your teenage years.
